The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center is an 80-bed facility located at 601 N. Main. It is a spiritual based program providing work therapy and recovery assistance for men with substance abuse problems and includes programs such as Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, GED, and Bible study. Seasonal recreational actvities include outings to nearby lakes, basketball, volleyball, and bowling. In-house tournaments include pool, ping-pong, and racquetball.
When William Booth began The Salvation Army, he realized the only way to re-build a man's self-worth was to give him an opportunity to help himself. This program is funded totally through private donations of pre-owned usable merchandise which can be resold through area Family Stores.
Men in the program pick up gifts-in-kind donations in the Tulsa area. Some of the men drive the familiar trucks with the large red shield. Others prepare merchandise for sale and work in the Family Stores while others work in maintenance or food preparation at the center.
