A trained volunteer team to be the first people to assist victims and workers on site is of primary importance to this program. Call 918-587-7801, Ext. I40 for further details. Disaster volunteers may give of their time as individuals, companies or groups.
What do Disaster Services Volunteers do during the Disaster?
- CDL Licensed drivers
- Serve food and beverages to victims and workers from Salvation Army mobile canteen units
- Assist with clothing and supplies distribution to victims
- Visit and show compassion and understanding to families as needed
- Help with various tasks at temporary emergency Salvation Army Shelters
- Help sort and distribute gifts-in-kind donations at temporary locations opened to warehouse this merchandise
- Ham radio operators to assist with worldwide communications
- Translators for Spanish or other language
What do Disaster Volunteers do in the recovery phase?
- Continue to sort and distribute gifts-in-kind if necessary
- Answer phone calls about pick up/delivery details from special collection projects
- Work with Volunteer Coordinator in various ways needed for a specific disaster
